Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini (i-8190) pictures

By // No comments:
I've posted an article about the availability of Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini early last year.
http://mobile.gjamoroso.com/2013/02/samsung-galaxy-s3-mini-now-available.html

Now i have a friend who bought one ( used phone) to replace his aging Alcatel smart phone. Borrowed his phone and then took a picture of it.

Actually, you'd be surprised if you hear how and why my friend bought this thing.

iPhone 5s on top, s3 mini on the middle and 4s below. S3 mini is thicker than the two iphones

If you dont compare the S3 mini's screen to other phones you wont know that it has a 4" display.

The problem with Globe's Fair Usage Policy on mobile internet

By // No comments:
Bandwidth cap
Globe telecoms is becoming strict on implementing their bandwidth cap on all services using mobile internet. Here is a link to Globe's Fair usage policy details http://www.globe.com.ph/surf/fup
FUP existed years ago, its just becoming visible now because some few issues with the implementation so read on understand.
"This means customers on an internet promo and plan who exceed 1 GB a day or 3 GB per month (whichever comes first) will experience browsing at 2G speeds."
Problem is Globe 2g connection is almost equivalent to no internet connection at all. Even on 3g, because of high latency, simple website took several mins to load on some occassions. And with my more than 2 years experience as a Globe subscriber, 2g or Edge is as good as "might as well turn off the data".
And how about Users on LTE? Why not just downgrade them to 3g?
"Our Fair Use Policy applies to all surfing promos and data plans for Globe postpaid and Tattoo Lifestyle Sticks, except PowerSurf. It also doesn't cover surfing charged with regular browsing rates (P5/15 minutes)."
So for those who trustes their sales agents and applied for a post paid plan for a "true" unlimited internet, we are sorry for you.
"Mobile surfing offers from Globe are generally meant for emailing, browsing and search activities. Customers who frequently use file-sharing software or download large files are usually the ones affected by our policy. Media streaming and downloading of torrents also contribute to the excessive use of bandwidth capacity."
To illustrate how unfair this cap is, look at my 2 weeks old phone's (iPhone 5s) data consumption
Yea, barely on my 3rd week and im almost on the monthly cap of 3gb. And for the record, the connection is not being used for torrent or file sharing or downloading of movies. Its just being used for web surfing, social apps like fb, instagram, twitter, watch streaming clips from youtube, listen to streaming music apps like 8tracks , sensing iMessages, and of course update apps. Specially if you are connected to LTE, youtube clips will automatically load the best quality format for your current connection - which will consume a large MB of your bandwidth.

With the era of high resolution photos, heavy websites, multimedia oriented social apps and messaging, and HD apps do you think 1gb/day or 3gb/month is enough?

I'd appreciate if they just change the description of the plan to "3gb data on 3g, 2g therafter" than mislead people with "unlimited mobile data".

Excoited!

Update is now installing

A list of software versions is displayed. No clear indication if its the GDR 3 aka Lumia Black update.

And its the Black!!! Woohooo

Sun Cellular TU200 , unli text to sun , 1000 text to other networks and 4 hours sun to sun calls

By // 21 comments:

This insane, for P200 you get unlimited text and 4 hours worth of calls to fellow sun cellular subscribers and 1000 text to other networks.
For 30 days!! That unlimited sun to sun text i believe is enough to justify the P200 pesos but with additional 4 hours of call and a thousand more text? Thats already a steal! This might sound an advertisement for sun but no, i just cant really believe it. Might be because i'm paying 1799 or more to Globe monthly haha.

To register text
TU200 to 247

This is a promo and until mar 31, 2014 only.

iPhone 5s on Globe SuperPlan plan 1799 and why not iPhone 5c

By // No comments:
Previously, I've posted an article about why I'm still using my old iPhone 4s as my main phone instead of my Lumia 1020 . 3 days after, I brought my Nokia Lumia 1020 on Nokia care at Ali-mall, Cubao to have it checked about the battery drain problem.
3. Battery life. Im not sure if i got a lemon unit but im only getting around 4-5hts continous heavy usage of phone with 3g/lte on always. Too short!
Still haven't got the phone nor any feedback on the progress even after more than a week. So, I got myself an iPhone 5s from Globe :)

Took the photo using Nokia Lumia 720
It's a Gold iPhone 5s with 16gb on internal storage.Got it for P9,600 cashout + P1,799 monthly payment. I didn't pay any cash during the time I got the phone. I enrolled it on a 24 months 0% installment from my credit card thru Globe. So, no cash out but ill be paying P2,199 monthly.

My original plan was after my contract with my iPhone 4s is to downgrade my Plan 1799 to Plan 999 since i will not be buying a phone from Globe anymore.

5 reasons why I'm still using my old iPhone 4s as my main phone instead of my Lumia 1020

By // No comments:
I bought my Nokia Lumia 1020 almost 2 months ago because of its camera (of course) and a new experience in mobile with its unconventional windows phone os. Coming from iOS, windows phone is a huge departure from my previous phone specially with how you navigate the menus.

Ive tried using my Nokia Lumia 1020 aa my main phone, meaning i inserted my active post paid sim card for about a month and i still went back to my iPhone 4s as my phone.

Dont get me wrong. Nokia lumia 1020 is a great phone, BUT i still find my older phone more effective.

1. Lack of quality apps. Actually, popular apps are already available for windows phone. Its just that the windows phone version is vastly inferior to its iOs and android counter part. Example facebook app on wp is slow to update and slow to post. The resolution of the apps dont give justice to lumia 1020's high resolution display.

2. Too big. Lumia 1020's 4.5" screen plus the bezel is too big to comfortably hold and compose messages using a single hand (ive got an average size of hand)

3. Battery life. Im not sure if i got a lemon unit but im only getting around 4-5hts continous heavy usage of phone with 3g/lte on always. Too short!

4. Notification is faster on iphone. I have fb and other app on my lumia 1020. I also have the same apps on iPhone 4s and i noticed that the notifications (specially on messaging/social networking apps) are quicker to appear on lumia 1020.

5. Ease of use. Its just a matter of familiarity on the phone.
